Janet's CV

I am an owner of the business, ‘Developing Skills’, Consulting and Training, with the main focus being:

  • Manual Handling Training using the Manutention Method
  • Training for those working with people with disabilities – (Swim-Ability Workshop)
  • AUSTSWIM Presenter training Swimming Teachers
  • Presenter for Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training
  • Communication Skills Training.

At the 2008 AUSTSWIM National Aquatic Education Conference (held in Adelaide SA), I received a National Award for AUSTSWIM 'Teacher of People with a Disability. The wording in the Sept. 08, AUSTSWIM Magazine read

"AUSTSWIM Teacher of People with a Disability - Janet Boer-Draffin - WA. Drawing on her vast experience as a swimming teacher, Janet pioneered the People with Disabilities Course for AUSTSWIM in Western Australia. Janet wrote, promoted and has presented the AUSTSWIM PWD Course and along with her own short course workshops, she has essentially been a one-stop shop for swimming teacher training in the area of PWD"

1990 until 2000 : I was employed by the Education Department as a Swimming Teacher for Children with Disabilities at Castlereagh Education Support School. In my role as the Swimming Teacher at Castlereagh, I was involved with many aspects of teaching and professional development that enabled me to work in an Education Support School.

2000 onwards : I have been heavily involved in gaining qualifications to be a ‘Presenter / Trainer’, towards teaching others to gain skills that will improve their careers, reduce injuries and assist people with disabilities.

In order to improve training / presenting skills and public speaking confidence, I c ompleted my Competent Toastmasters Award, Advanced Toastmaster Silver Award and have held several club officer positions for Toastmasters International. I won the West Australian Speech Evaluation contest and contested the Australian Finals in 2004. The website for Manutention is: www.manutention.org.au
